Wow! The 28th of another month has crept up on me! Is Andrew really another month older?! And let me tell you, this last month was filled with exciting "firsts" for Andrew!
As I stated in the 4 month blog, we were ready to ween Andrew off of swaddling. I was very apprehensive about this because he was doing so well sleeping through the night with the swaddling. However, I knew the longer I put this off, the harder it would be for him in the future. We began by putting one arm out of the swaddle for a week, then both arms out for a week and finally by the third week, we had one little boy sleeping in his crib, swaddle-less!! WooHoo!!!! We did have some trying nights, but over all he did great!
Andrew has also learned how to soothe himself to sleep for naps and at night time!! Upon leaving the pediatrician last month, she strongly encouraged us to put him to bed awake. She said by this point he should be able to get himself to sleep without any aides. And she was right! It's almost as if he loves being in his crib these days. He goes to bed with a smile on his face and wakes up with yet another smile on his face!! He is becoming such the big boy!!
In the past few days, Andrew has been introduced to baby cereal. My pediatrician recommended beginning this around 5 months, so before Aunt Nenna headed back to Arkansas, we gave it a shot.... and let me just say, he did great!! He ate the whole bowl that I made for him. Daddy made sure to catch it all on camera!
Andrew is continuing to grow, grow, grow!! He has quite the chunky face these days and filling out quite nice! :) He is still in size 2 diapers and wears 6-9 months clothes. He is really learning how to use his arms and fingers more and more as he grabs for his toys, mommy's jewelry and people's faces. He can turn over, but is very content laying on his back to play with toys. He lights up when people smile at him and loves to laugh when being tickled. Andrew also attended his first bible class this last month! He has the sweetest teachers and I felt completely at peace leaving him. He cried towards the end of the first class, but has continued to attend and enjoy seeing his friends while singing and praising God.
All these "firsts" for my son are so much fun to watch! What a great month!
